German Police Accused of Pushing Illegal Migrants into Poland

Posted on 12 February 202512 February 2025 by The Poland Report

Reports from Polish media suggest that German authorities are allegedly transferring illegal migrants into Poland. A video recorded by reporter Kamil Nieradka from TV Republika shows German police officers, unusually dressed in full protective sanitary gear, handing over a migrant to Polish border guards. The migrant was then seen freely walking further into Polish territory.

Nieradka, who witnessed the event at the Polish-German border, described the operation as both bizarre and systematic. The German officers, clad in protective suits, gloves, and masks, escorted the migrant—also dressed in similar attire—to the Polish side. After a brief check by Polish border guards, the man was released and continued walking towards Lubieszyn, near Szczecin. According to Nieradka, there appeared to be no further sanitary restrictions on the Polish side.

The first confirmed reports of such transfers date back to June 2024. At that time, Poland’s Border Guard Chief, Robert Bagan, discussed the matter with Dieter Romann, President of the German Federal Police Presidium, after an incident in Osinów Dolny, where German authorities allegedly abandoned a migrant family on the Polish side. German officials acknowledged that the actions of their officers did not comply with established cross-border procedures and assured that such occurrences would not be repeated. Despite these assurances, more similar incidents have since been recorded.

Meanwhile, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced today that Germany will extend its temporary border controls for another six months. The decision, formally communicated to the European Commission, is part of Germany’s continued efforts to curb illegal migration. Scholz emphasized that border controls have been effective in preventing unauthorized crossings. According to Germany’s Interior Ministry, since the introduction of these measures in September 2024, approximately 1,900 human traffickers have been arrested, and around 47,000 individuals have been turned away due to fraudulent documents or lack of visas.
