“This is Donald Trumpās game, a game designed to serve American interests, but for the first time, I see an alignment with Poland’s priorities. There is nothing more important for Poland than securing peace at all costs along its borders. Sending Polish troops to Ukraine would only prolong the conflict,” stated Professor Kazimierz Kik during an interview with wPolsce24 Television cited by wPolityce website.
When asked whether Poland would deploy troops to Ukraine after the U.S. presidential elections, Prof. Kik firmly responded, “That would not be the best idea.”
The Risk of Prolonging the War. “Peace is in Polandās best interest”
“For the first time, I stand with what the President of the United States is planning to do,” Prof. Kik continued. “Sending our soldiersāor any European soldiersāto Ukraine would extend the war. For Russia, this would mean that military force dictates the outcome, and we would be escalating the conflict. America is playing its own game, seeking to weaken its primary global competitorāChinaāby detaching Russia from it. Achieving peace in Eastern Europe is a necessary step in that strategy.”
According to Kik, “Peace is also in Polandās best interest. Only after securing it can we rebuild relationships in Central and Eastern Europe.”
European Military Readiness and the Question of War
The professor emphasized the unpreparedness of European armies, questioning whether Poland and Europe truly need a war with Russia.
“We need to ask ourselves whether we should be focusing on achieving peace in Europe at all costs. Letās not forget that the roots of the Russia-Ukraine conflict lie in Ukraineās NATO aspirations. The United States opposes Ukraineās NATO membership, yet some European leaders are pushing for it against both Russiaās and Americaās positions. Is this really in our best interest? If this is our instinct for self-preservation, then I have serious concerns,” he remarked.
Trumpās Controversial Peace Strategy
Since taking office in January 2025, Donald Trump has pursued an aggressive approach to ending the war in Ukraine, sparking mixed reactions in the U.S. and internationally. While Trump has promised a swift resolution, his strategy, which involves territorial compromises and Ukraineās neutrality as a buffer state between NATO and Russia, has divided opinion.
Supporters, particularly within the Republican Party, view this as a pragmatic move. “The plan appears rational and realistic,” some argue on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), seeing it as an opportunity for de-escalation. Trump’s administration stresses that the U.S. should reduce its direct involvement, shifting responsibility to Europe.
However, criticsāincluding former Vice President Mike Penceāstrongly oppose Trumpās rhetoric, particularly his implication that Ukraine shares responsibility for the war. European leaders, such as French President Emmanuel Macron, are lobbying Trump to maintain a firm stance against Russia, fearing that his concessions could destabilize the region.
Global Concerns and Economic Reactions
Experts like John Bolton, Trumpās former national security adviser, warn that Trumpās erratic statementsāsuch as calling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a “dictator”āweaken the U.S.’s negotiating position. “Trump lacks a strategic approach; this is a gift to Putin,” Bolton cautioned.
Meanwhile, financial markets are reacting with volatility. Defense industry stocks are experiencing declines due to the possibility of a peace agreement reducing demand for military equipment.
The High Stakes of Peace Negotiations
Trumpās actions have been praised by some for their boldness but have also raised widespread concerns about their long-term implications for Ukraine and global stability. As Polish politicians, including figures like Warsaw Mayor RafaÅ Trzaskowski, have pointed out,
“Peace on Putinās terms would weaken both Europe and the United States.”.
The debate over military involvement, NATOās expansion, and the path to peace in Eastern Europe remains a critical issue for policymakers worldwide.
